The new Patriotic
Party are yet to go to the polls to select its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024
elections in what they consider as a must win election in their quest to break
the eight as they have tagged it. Several names have popped up as potential
flagbearers of the party. Leading amongst these names are the vice president,
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the minister of trade; Hon Alan Kyeremanteng.
However, former deputy
minister of information, Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye believes that the vice
president will be a bad choice for the NPP. Speaking on JoyNews, he emphasized
that flagbearers can only sell to the public their track records and base on
their good work, ask the people to give them the mandate. But Dr. Bawumia has
failed in this regard by managing the economy poorly. That for him is grounds
for Ghanaians to consider him as not serious in his quest to become
president.
“The
point is that what he (Bawumia) is noted for or his claim to fame in the past
was economic management. He has been so spectacular that he is running away
from the very record he has supervised. As head of the Economic Management
team, he has supervised the worst economic situation under the 4th Republic.
This
will make him completely untenable as a candidate for the NPP. Exactly what is
he going to tell the electorate? Who is going to take him seriously after all
the falsehoods he peddled have been revealed for what they are, falsehood. The
man has not even had the courage to step out there and defend his economic
record. He is not a viable candidate.” He said.
He
further reiterated that, a campaign against Bawumia will be easy and more
convincing based on his records. “All you need to do in a campaign against
him is to play his own voice and that finishes the matter. He will be a
terrible candidate. He is a poor candidate. The reality shows that Dr Bawumia
has no credibility as we speak. Nobody in the Ghanaian space takes him
seriously.”
Most
Ghanaians share the same view as a random interview of Ghanaians by Popular TV
Gh yielded similar results. The New Patriotic Party are yet to go to the polls
and maybe this could be a guide for delegates.
